ERIK GERO was born on the 18th of April 1951 in Budapest, Hungary. As a son of a protestant minister, he got involved in sacred music from an early age. After receiving an engineering degree, he had the opportunity to study at the Franz Liszt Music Academy, Budapest. As a member of the Franz Liszt Chamber Choir, he traveled extensively and took part in international competitions. From 1985 to 1988, he conducted the Nepszinhaz Opera Group.
In 1989, he moved to Canada, and later became a Canadian citizen. He has been working as an organist/music director and leading different musical groups. For his choral compositions, he was awarded two first prizes at the Amadeus Choral Writing Competition in 1998 and a second place in 2009 at the St. Cecilia International Competition. He is presently a resident of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
